VipGate

The VipGate system is designed to perform and control automatic passenger identification for check-in and boarding purposes. VipGate provides a new service for serial ticket holders and top-tier Finnair Plus members who possess eTickets on Finnair’s domestic flights.
The basic components of the system are a RFID transponder embedded into a Frequent Flyer Card (e.g. MultiFLYe) and a RFID reader device integrated into the VipGate.
When a passenger carrying one of the above-mentioned cards walks through the VipGate, the identification takes place automatically. If the passenger has a valid reservation for the flight, the system immediately starts the check-in and boarding procedure. The passenger is then allowed to board the plane. The whole procedure happens in a matter of seconds.
Passengers travelling with the RFID equipped identification cards can now walk through the VipGate straight into the plane without even showing the card, which is automatically read. VipGate is a fast lane to the aircraft.
VipGate has been awarded the international Information Technology Excellence Award 2002 by The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA).
VipGate systems have been in use in various of airports in Finland since March 2002.
The data management between the VipGate and the airline booking system is managed by the OpenId middleware provided by SysOpen plc.
